Transform Brighton and Hove brings you the latest in radical political education, as we invite three speakers to talk each month. Expect hot takes on politics, culture, current affairs, history, and everything in between.
Colin Piper: Technofeudalism
Colin Piper has been an activist for over 50 years. He was the chair of Brighton Kemptown Labour Party, and is a longstanding member of the TBH community. He will bringing his experience to an exploration of Yanis Varoufakis' Technofedualism: What Killeded Capitalism? in which the maverick Greek economist argues that we're experiencing a epochal shift. No longer do the whims of finance shape the world around us- they have been replaced by the fiefdoms of tech firms. What does this mean? Is capitalism really over? And if so- what new forms are economic and political power taking?
Hermione: Stop L3Harris
The Stop L3Harris campaign has been an integral part of Palestine solidarity in Brighton for the last two years. In opposition to the production of F-35 components in our city, the group has won a campaign against the licensing of further production of arms manufacturing. From peace camps to mass letter writing, Hermione will join us to explain the most effective way the people of Brighton & Hove can oppose the genocide in Gaza.
Calvin Harris: Housing Coops
Calvin is a member of Brighton Rock Housing Cooperative, specialising in development and outreach. He has written a number of articles on cooperative principles and is engaged with the local Brighton & Hove community through Cooperative Housing in Brighton & Hove and Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust. Calvin will speak about the history of cooperatives, with a particular contemporary focus on how they can provide a viable alternative to private rent seeking and landlordism in Brighton and Hove.
