Indo-Jazz Saxophone player Jesse Bannister teams up with tabla maestro Hiren Chate to perform Indian Classical ragas for an intimate audience at The Brunswick. This one off event showcases two distinct talents of the Indian Classical scene. Jesse is known for leading a course called IMOWI (Indian Music on Western Instruments) at Leeds College of Music. Whilst studying music himself, he deviated from the constrictions of his jazz school curriculum to delve deep into Hindustani music, working tirelessly to adapt its subtle inflections and swooping melodies to the saxophone. He studied with British sitar maestro Dharambir Singh, and also received instruction from Benares vocal legends Pandits Rajan & Sajan Mishra. He is accompanied by Hiren Chate on tabla. Hiren comes from a family of musicians and grew up in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He has trained in Tabla (the Indian percussion instrument) from leading exponents in the field. He has worked with composers like Nitin Sawhney and Taoas Relia and composed music for various dance companies in London and Europe. He runs a company “Beat of a drum” which promotes the Indian classical music festival, ‘Samraga’ in Ahmedabad and London. In between his compositions & performances, Hiren teaches tabla. He has students in India, UK, Canada, America and Europe. He also runs a music academy in Dubai called “Bandish Perfoming Arts”. 7.30PM £12.50 18+
