More Info
Starting her career as a DIY street busker, and now signed to Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe records in the USA, distinguished British artist and ‘original folk voice’, Ruth Theodore has been steadily releasing critically acclaimed records for over a decade. An experienced stage performer, Theodore playfully pushes the boundaries of gender and genre with a sense of joyful rebellion, a touch of 1920’s vaudeville theatre and a healthy dose of punk rock attitude. Delivering song after song with the relentless lyrical energy of a San-Fran beat poet, Theodore will hold your attention for every second of the show.
Joining on stage will be award winning Zimbabwean bassist and vocalist, Edith WeUtonga; Calum Prior on virtuoso keys and soundscapes, and the jazz & latin influenced beats of Al Banerjee on drums. Together on stage, the band are obviously loving, and living it.
Theodore is found regularly touring in the USA, sharing labels, stages and studios with iconic artists, as a performer, writer and co-producer. This rare UK band performance will feature tracks from her latest record ‘I Am I Am’, fruits of her ongoing collaborations with Grammy and Tony award winning bassist/producer Todd Sickafoose (Anais Mitchell / Hadestown) and Swiss-American percussion virtuoso Mathias Kunzli (Regina Spektor / Lauren Hill), as well as selections from her critically acclaimed back catalogue, which is archived in the British Library, celebrated for its contribution to British music.
