More Info

Queer The Mic (Insta: @queerthemic) is a glittery spoken word and poetry stage for Brighton. An evening of joy, humour and resistance from entirely queer and trans performers.

Expect 8 handpicked open mic performers, a brilliant feature chosen from the last event and a starry headline act.

Our headliner Simon Maddrell is a queer Manx poet living in Brighton & Hove. He is published in fifteen anthologies and numerous publications including AMBIT, Butcher’s Dog, The Moth, The Rialto, Poetry Wales, Stand and Under the Radar.

Simon’s debut, Throatbone, was published by UnCollected Press, 2020. Queerfella jointly-won The Rialto Open Pamphlet Competition, 2020. Isle of Sin (Polari Press) and The Whole Island (Valley Press) will be published in 2023.

Our feature S-BARS (she/they) is a queer creative artist based in London who is known for their relatable, raw and humoured performances. Their work reflects real life experiences around the themes of self reflection, navigating life in your twenty’s and mental health. The past few years they have steadily built a name for themselves.

They cater to all audiences and has become a respected and relevant artist in the scene. Through their flow, lyricism and wordplay, they will take you on a journey and leave you wanting more.  Always a gorgeous, raucous evening not to be missed! We'll see you there.
