Hill Collective // Chris + Friends

Possibly the first live show you attend in 2025 - this is gonna be big, two great local jazz acts offer two magical sets followed by a big ensemble improvisation featuring all the musicians involved.

Hill Collective is a jazz ensemble based in Brighton, UK. Led by saxophonist and composer Pete Piskov, the group offers a fresh musical attitude, employing modern improvisation techniques and nuanced compositions – a soulful, avant-garde addition to the bustling UK jazz landscape.

Chris Luu combines London's red-hot flavours of improvisational jazz with Brighton's emphasis on fluidity of expression to create something truly unique. His music uses very intentional harmonies and melodies to chart out a course between landscapes of freeform complexity and chaos.

With members from Lau Ro, Jamie Broughton's Big Long Sun, and Van Zon, Chris + Friends represents an excitingly new permutation of a roster which is already firmly rooted within Brighton's musical culture.

The night is then capped off with the two bands joining into one large ensemble and improvising according to a synthesised conduction system inspired by the work of Butch Morris.
