Blue Vannin were formed in July 2017 as a one off band to play the music of John Coltrane to mark the 50thanniversary of Coltrane's passing. Thereafter the band were invited to perform at the Isle of Man Blues festival and secured a monthly gig hosting the local Jazz Club.
In 2020 Blue Vannin brought legends Alan Barnes & Dave Newton to the island and supported their gig at The Erin Arts Centre.
Since 2021 the band have been responsible for organising the highly successful Port Erin Jazz festival each October and a decision was made to play off the Isle of Man.
The line up is flexible but is underpinned by John Stillman - piano and musical direction and joined on this mini tour by:
Lauren Gray - vocals
Beccy Rork - guest on saxophones
Sue Harrison - alto sax
Jerry Carter - tenor sax
John Stillman - keys
Jim Houghton - drums
The set list is eclectic, to say the least - ranging from Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter to Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and older standards from Duke Ellington and Fats Waller.
